EAGLE’S NEST
Where childhood winters return, and new mountain memories begin.
For a Buffalo-based client who first learned to ski on the slopes of Deer Valley as a child, Eagle’s Nest is both a return and a promise. What began as boyhood winters carving turns beneath Bald Mountain now lives on in the anticipation of watching his own children glide downhill, faces bright with the same exhilaration. The home is rooted in those early memories and shaped by a desire to create new ones, season after season. Situated at the base of Deer Valley with uninterrupted views of Bald Mountain, the 3,700-square-foot retreat is designed for intimacy and immersion in the alpine landscape. Mornings begin with first light on the ridgeline and the quiet ritual of gearing up for the lifts; summers unfold along the surrounding network of hiking and biking trails, where the terrain becomes an extension of daily life. Scaled for warmth and connection, the architecture favors proportion over monumentality. Generous glazing keeps the mountain in constant view, while outdoor fireplaces anchor sheltered terraces where stories of the day’s runs are retold long after the snow has settled. The home encourages gathering, whether around a crackling fire in winter or beneath cool alpine evenings in July. Inside, hemlock wraps walls and ceilings in continuous warmth, creating an atmosphere that feels protective and familiar. Black soapstone introduces depth and quiet contrast, grounding kitchens and gathering spaces with a tactile, enduring presence. The restrained palette allows light, texture, and shared experience to take precedence, resulting in a home that feels not only timeless, but deeply personal to the mountains that shaped it.
